Indoor air pollution could be one of the most overlooked, most dangerous threats to our health. As HealthNutNews reports, "... indoor air toxicity is often up to twice that of outdoor, which can lead to asthma, headaches, allergies, hormone imbalances and other health problems."

The quality of our indoor air is significantly reduced in the presence of household chemicals. Synthetic cleaning products, pesticides, perfumes and fragrances, can negatively affect hormones, leading to mood changes, weight gain and sleep disturbances. Even carpets, synthetic furniture, dry-cleaned clothes, paints and computers, all release indoor air pollution, reducing the quality of the air we breathe.

WHY YOU SHOULD PUT PLANTS IN YOUR PLACE OF BUSINESS. Indoor plants are a good investment for any company due to the psychological benefits they have on employees and customers. Plants filter the air and provide oxygen. The air quality in an airtight home or office is usually worse than outdoor air due to lack of airflow no where for carbon to escape, use of toxic cleaners and toxins in furniture and technological devices. Since a good deal of time is spent inside one's home and/or office space, then measures to improve that air quality are in order.

My favorite architectural design firm Marmol Radziner just announced the completion of the renovation of the most beautiful home I’ve ever organized and styled - A Cliff May western ranch style bungalow that producer Amy Pascal’s bought which reside in Brentwood’s Sullivan Canyon. The home looks exactly how I remember it. I worked in the home for a month The home still had one of Cliff May’s signature features - an intercom system. One day, Amy came home and screamed into the intercom “oh my God! I love it!” (referring to my work) Which I will never forget.

If you want a plant to thrive you need to figure out where the species originates from and try to replicate their natural habitat. For example, orchids are epiphytes and grow off the sides of trees in extremely humid tropical climates like the swamps of Florida - which is why watering orchids with ice cubes is no bueno. It’s a myth and I beg you to stop the torture now.

In addition to organizing and plant design I decorate indoor and outdoor spaces.

Here are some fun tips I’ve compiled over the years. Interior decorating is fun and it can be expensive but it doesn’t have to be.

ART, PLANTS, AND GOOD LIGHT ARE ALL YOU REALLY NEED TO MAKE YOUR HOME LOOK “DONE.”

I’ve been a home organizer and decorator in Los Angeles since 2014. I often go into people’s homes who have not had the time or know-how to approach filling in the gaps to complete their space (empty walls, empty spaces, outgrown furniture, unflattering lighting, lack of dimension/layering, etc…)

Despite having lived in their homes for sometimes decades, so many of my clients have blank walls. Too busy and overwhelmed by the task is why. One of my favorite aspects of interior design is to curate and place art. Art, plants, airflow, space to move, and good light. That’s all you need to have a home that both feels and looks beautiful. If you don’t have art your home will lack personality and feel undone. If you don’t have plants, natural light, and airflow your home will feel stagnant.

Today I met a 23 year-old women who had a cloth napkin and placemat collection that I would typically find in the home of a 65 year-old woman who lives in a gated community in Altadena. This “young woman” lived in a “hip” apartment in “downtown LA.” Hip, she was not. Nice, she was. Help her, I did…(said in Yoda voice).
